Here we are in May of 2009 and my ecomm site has been down for 1 week! That is like a generation in cyber terms. My clients interact with our site on a daily basis. Day 1 I call the tech support (in Philippines) and they state the obvious like oh yes, your site is down because our servers are down. They (the staff in Philippines) are kept in the dark about what is going on in the server room and have no power to make any decisions or take any actions. And what takes so long? You could buy, install and re-constitute new servers in a day these days.

I found myself in a situation whereby 1&1 could hold me to ransome for the rights to my site! My web-designer had a dispute with 1&1, so I agreed with my web-designer to go it alone to pay for my own contract but 1&1 wouldn't let me. They closed down my website, and told me that unless my web-designer paid his ENTIRE BILL ie. for many, many accounts, they wouldn't transfer my account into my ownership, so that I could pay my own individual bill & keep my acct. live. Oh and BTW, I was going to be responsible for paying this man's whole bill, in order that I could transfer my one acct. into my name. I wouldn't use 1&1 if it was the last web-provider on earth!!!!

1and1 was good at one time but in recent months we have had nothing but troubles. We have several managed dedicated servers and they have been offline for entire days three times costing us troubles with clients and several clients lost entire days of business.
Today, again, we were told early in the day the main server was down and would be swapped out in two hours. All day we heard the same story even from a supervisor named Ryan. Tonight once again we called as over 128 domains are still offline. Another call just now and we were told the ticket was never started. Since early today, for now around 10 hours all our clients sites have been offline.
Three times now in past two months. 1and1 in our opinion is not an option anymore. It has cost us stress, angry clients and one threat of having to pay a clients losses for the day.
We can not get a straight answer, been told all day the same story, so in fact, 1and1 is not an good host anymore. We have been with them for 4 years.
